From the Dean

Welcome to our Web site! We are delighted that you are visiting us. So take a look and please contact us to learn more about the offerings of the College of Education and Human Development.

Our College continues its long-standing tradition of preparing teachers for classroom instruction. After all, we've been successfully preparing teachers for more than 125 years and along the way have built a reputation as Louisiana's premier teacher education program. As the needs of schools and society have changed, so has our College by extending our traditional teacher training program to a diverse audience. Are you interested in becoming a part of the most noble of all professions, teaching?

Our College offers undergraduate and graduate teacher and leader preparation programs, as well as programs in areas such as health and exercise science, sports administration, health promotion, higher education administration, counseling, and workforce development. If interested in one of these dynamic programs, please refer to the College's menu bar on the main page of our Web site and click on Degrees or Certifications.

In addition to many degree offerings, our faculty and staff will assist you in preparing for a future career. Our faculty, who take full responsibility for your knowledge and preparation, are highly qualified and believe the process of preparing effective, professional educators is a collective enterprise that values excellence in teaching. In fact, embedded in our theme, Models for Learning, is the philosophy that candidates in all programs will be taught in ways that will empower them to work effectively in diverse schools and other educational settings. How do we accomplish this? By placing our undergraduate and graduate candidates in academic settings, field-based experiences, clinical practice, and other professional educational roles that allow them to become Models for Learning.

I hope you will contact us about our dynamic education program and join the hundreds of other past graduates who are part of a rich legacy in teacher preparation, one that is proud of its history but grounded in the future. Let us know how we can play a role in defining your future.
